Advice from little old me based on where I've been, what I've learned and things I want to avoid.
Unbox that china! Use it daily. No, it isn’t microwaveable and that’s okay.
Close your eyes and imagine what your life looks like – food, clothes, home, friendships – now start somewhere and make it happen.
Forgive. Nothing anyone does or says is worth putting your own peace in prison for. And just in case no one ever told you, forgiveness doesn’t mean acceptance of behaviour. It is undeserved pardon of someone else’s in order to set yourself free.
Make a dream board. Part two, expect it to come to pass.
Consider Dave Ramsey’s finance programme regardless of the age or stage of your life.
Never apologise for your success.
And, never take bribes in order to be successful.
Wait 24 hours before responding to emails you’re emotional about.
If you’re in a relationship where the other person’s response is to consistently list your faults whilst never admitting to their own, kindly duck out.
Smile at strangers.
Develop self-control by not repeating patterns of consumption ‘just because’.
Sacrifice financially for one month and spoil someone else. Feel your heart race when you surprise them. Repeat as often as you can.
Humility is far more attractive than positive self-esteem.
Try waking before sunrise one day. Take your morning drink outside and sit in the stillness.
Just because it makes you happy doesn't mean it's right.
Keep clear of friends who act on their fancies and feelings when it comes to commitment, who use you as a bookmark and who break their word. It isn’t just about promises. It’s also about whether they live with integrity.
Don’t save that suit or dress for ‘fancy occasions.’ Every day is an occasion. Treat it as such.
Lying destroys people. Don’t do it and don’t get close to people who do it.
Root your identity in things that cannot be shaken. Circumstance will not rip your world apart if it’s planted in something unshakeable.
If someone is on your mind consistently, that’s a sign you should reach out to them. Don’t be afraid. Find a way to do so.
Listen very carefully to those who don't cheer when you win.
It isn’t too late to learn to sing, play guitar, speak another language. Ask around for recommendations and get going.
Make a list of people who have been in your life within the last five years. Put a star next to the ones you think will be there for the next five.
Consider looking up. Life isn’t just about you, your agenda, what you think and how you vote. Be open-minded.
Your thoughts say more about you than your mouth does.
We live in a generation of fatherlessness and motherlessness. Stand in the gap for someone who needs you.
If you see someone crying in public, go hug them. Never hesitate.
Don't look at someone else's life and criticise. Turn negativity into positivity by using it as inspiration instead of jealousy.
A belief is something you argue over. A conviction is something you die for.
When loving someone's outfit or hair, tell them. You have no idea what battle they are fighting and a compliment might just save them.
It is okay to be wrong. Simply apologise and move on.
Learn to apologise by doing it whether or not you are wrong.
Get a perm. Okay, maybe not. Well, I love a good perm!
You deserve a love story and a fairy tale. Don’t settle for anything less.
Money is a tool. It is not your comforter, your saviour or your security. It works for you and should never come between people. Live with an open hand.
If you think negative thoughts when a person’s name comes to mind, write down those words. At the bottom of the page write your name. What words come to mind? Compare. Act accordingly.
Don't feel pressured to 'loosen up' simply because other people live off of jokes. It's okay to be you, you serious, eccentric, type-A darling.
Steer clear of people who only ever talk about other people behind their backs. It means they do it to you too. You deserve better friends. Walk away.
Love is a decision, not a feeling.
Learn your love language. Learn your partner’s. Keep their tank full by ensuring you fulfill them in that way.
Never let someone in the grocery line put that item back. Pay for it and tell them to have a great day.
Tomorrow is new and unblemished. How do you plan to use it?
