I've been busy since 28 February when I flew back to London. Quite busy. This business trip had three major work commitments, and the newest for me was an interview with Rossy (you may call him Ross Campbell, I call him Rossy) at Absolute Radio station in London. For UK radio listeners, it where Magic and Kiss and the countries top morning show is produced. I've done blog interviews before but this was my first experience with this type of media. I have been in studios many times before, just not as an author.

Should authors go to the LBF?
That is a good question, because this event isn't aimed at authors. I was there with a Bella Bryce nametag, but I was scouting the industry for my mainstream work. In other words, prepare to be disappointed if you think you're going to talk to anyone 'big'. Or anyone. There were no pitch appointments, and publishers weren't there to connect with authors. However, there were a few chats given by authors and an area called Author HQ, but overall, it really wasn't marketed toward those of us who write. That doesn't mean I didn't go with the intention of making connections for my eventual mainstream career. It meant a lot of watching, listening, and looking at name tags so I could Google them and find out who is who in this industry. That was entirely worth the £40 I paid to get in.
This event was for industry professionals, like cloud services for managing publisher's demands (think contracts or rights and royalties), distributors, and publishing houses themselves. They weren't meeting authors. Yes, I was walking past CEOs, Vice Presidents, Managers and Publishing agents, but they were there to talk to each other, not to me. That was fine. I was there to observe; to drink in the atmosphere and be near all of that delicious buzz that morphs into books that eventually bleed out of me. It was an investment in more than one way. I did talk to one small publisher, as well as left my business card with Harper, and also picked up submission guidelines for Kensington. For now, I'm processing everything. I don't see anything as a wasted venture, so for me, this will mean something and further me in some way.
Those authors located in Europe and the UK have never been able to pop over for a weekend retreat when they've been hosted in the US, so this was for them. We rented a gorgeous Victorian house in Margate. The sea was right out the front door. Everyone had their own room and bathroom, and there was plenty of space to write and chat and unwind. There was a wine and cheese evening, dinner, breakfasts together, lots of shop talk and mini talks on the industry like Amazon and I gave a session on branding and marketing.
