I've been quiet the last few months, I know. A lot has changed and it didn't take long for me to see that it was good change. Some people have faded out of my life and new ones have walked in. I'm currently working on more manuscripts at one time than ever (five), and getting less work done because of it. My web shop has been unusually busy, which means I squeal and bounce up and down when I get an order. I know you're not surprised. It really does happen.
Working from home often actually translates to this: leaving to work somewhere else.
coffee shop writing days, where other people make coffee and bring it to me with a smile. My current home base is the newly renovated (and under new management) Ashland Coffee & Tea. I have a 'spot' that I sit at, and on this particular day someone was in my spot. Hence, table. I was Sheldon Cooper about my spot before Sheldon Cooper existed.
Or I just stay home and work in the garden. Autumn in Virginia means this is the best time to be out of doors. I typically write for four hours before needing a coffee refill and a cardigan.
Personal time and space
Recently, I've purchased house plants. I don't know why. They're cute but I usually end up killing them. I also bought flowers for our brass planters because I can't kill them. The sun takes care of one bit and the rain takes care of the other. There is a 100% chance that I will not deprive them.
When things look good I am very productive, so I use almost all of my spare time (ha! what is that?) making our home as classically comfortable and beautiful as I can. With as much creativity as writing takes out of me, I have to refill the tank with another form of creative expression. Typically, that equates to rearranging my entire house on a regular basis. Here in the bedroom it may look unsuspectingly peaceful and tidy, but that's because creative expression is over for today. Yes, I have an extremely understanding and patient husband.
Guess how many times my creative expression resulted in this dining table being moved? Don't guess.
I also did two craft projects this past month. I taught myself how to make candles by messing up a whole batch, and then I made sandalwood oil sugar scrub.
Do you see the empty bottle of liquid there? Yeah. That entire thing was in my bubble bath - the entire thing - and I'm not sorry.
Lately, I also hosted a reader for a little afternoon of, well, this. And coffee. Lots of that.
Right, I'm off to write! And if you're a reader then you might be off to review. Yes?
Here's my email address.
