Thank you to everyone who has supported me through the last nearly four months of recovery and intense physiotherapy following my total knee replacement. From emails and private messages, to donations through GoFundMe and care packages, I can honestly say that despite the circumstance (newly divorced, living in a new place, thousands of miles from people I know and love) this recovery couldn't have gone any better. I've had so many incredible moments and have smashed every single limitation put on me prior to surgery. If you're part of the team on GFM then you receive regular photos, videos and updates so you're already aware of the miraculous results. My full time job is rehabilitating my knee, which means I spend almost two hours a day at the gym between classes (Abs are killing me, by the way) and weight lifting. For the first time since 2006 I'm able to use a stationary bike, skip, sort of run and do lunges. It's pretty amazing.
What about books?
I've been working on three books at the same time since surgery. The seventh book in the Waldorf Manor series, How Sweet The Sound is almost finished. The first quarter of it was beta-read a few weeks ago and it's progressing nicely. Sam's Silence, Walden School book three is around 60k words as well. Make sure you have tissues. The Marriage Treaty is going to be a 30k novella sequel to The Protagonist and is about halfway finished. I plan on finishing all three this year (sooner rather than later) and plan on them being released close to each other. I will be doing cover reveals and announcing dates when it's time. I consume uncountable cups of coffee each day to ensure I bring you the latest in caffinated escapism. You're welcome. Proof of this is below.
As most of you know, I am a pantser, not a plotter. I don't plot my books, nor do I make any decisions about what will happen when I write. I'm completely at the mercy of my unbridled imagination and the film reel that plays in my mind. This is both a unique way to write and often unheard of from even voracious readers. In any given room I've been in for a conference or workshop there is never more than 2-5% of the room putting their hand up saying they a pantser. It doesn't mean better, worse or indifferent. It is what it is. The creative style I was wired to have also means that I can go days without writing. Sometimes weeks. Other times, I see the scene in my head, hear the music, smell the cologne or feel the wind blowing through the trees and from that I can write chapter after chapter. It's mostly the initial inspiration for a scene, chapter or paragraph that comes from the said 'film reel' and off I go to craft the rest of the book. Writing is also about discipline, regardless of style or type of inspiration. There are days where I simply must work, inspired or not, but those days usually consist of editing. Either way, I'm very pleased with the progress on all three books and I cannot wait for you to read them. I plan to do some signed paperback giveaways this year as well.
And to say thank you for your continued support as readers, here are two mock-ups of upcoming books I wanted to share.
**Please note these are not cover reveals! These are close to what I will be submitting to my publisher for the designer to tidy up and replicate and wanted to share**
